Judy Rosenthal loved to draw as a child. Her early work like these flowers and the bird was when she was 12 or 13 years old. She enjoyed drawing animals, especially horses and birds, and she earned many prizes as a child for her drawings.
Judy graduated from Sophie Nucomb College at Tulane University with a BFA in painting and sculpture, and she became celebrated in Houston for her paintings depicting the growth of Houston. Her Bicentennial Series on the Port of Houston was accepted by the Smithsonian Institute, the Royal Library at Windsor, and frequently featured by the Chamber of Commerce and Port of Houston magazines. She was known for her paintings depicting the growth of the Port of Houston.
In addition to very realistic historical paintings, she had a distinct style called “Cubistic Expressionism” which resembled stained glass. She also was famous for painting Downtown Houston.
She also painted vivid seascapes like The Southwind, pictured to the right and landscapes like “Ducks on a Pond”.
