Sol Bernard Weiner

Sol Weiner was a titan of business in Houston, Texas. He became chairman in 1977 of Weiners Stores, a retail clothing chain that at its height had 150 stores throughout Texas and Louisiana.

Sol was President of Congregation Beth Yeshurun from 1961-1962, the youngest president in the congregation’s history. He was a force in the building campaign for a new synagogue for the congregation. He sold the old site on Southmore, found the new site at 4525 Beechnut and negotiated its purchase.

Sol also headed the Israel Bonds drive in 1956, was president of the Jewish Federation, and was three times chosen chairman of the United Jewish Appeal.

In 1985 Weiner was honored for his lifetime of community service by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, of which he was a national director.
